The luxury automotive landscape in India is experiencing an unprecedented surge, with Italian supercar manufacturer Lamborghini witnessing record-breaking demand. The company’s latest hybrid supercar, the Revuelto, has been entirely booked until 2026, reflecting the growing appetite among India’s affluent buyers for high-end vehicles.

Priced at ₹8.89 crore (ex-showroom), the Revuelto stands as Lamborghini’s most expensive offering in the Indian market. This plug-in hybrid model succeeds the Aventador and marks Lamborghini’s foray into the hybrid segment in India. Francesco Scardaoni, Director for Asia Pacific at Lamborghini, highlighted India’s rapid economic growth and the increasing number of high-net-worth individuals as key drivers for this heightened demand. He noted that the Revuelto is sold out until 2026 both in India and globally.

The trend isn’t limited to Lamborghini alone. Mercedes-Maybach, the ultra-luxury division of Mercedes-Benz, has also reported remarkable growth in India. In 2024, the brand experienced a 140% increase in sales, delivering approximately 500 units. Daniel Lescow, Head of Mercedes-Maybach, emphasized India’s potential to become one of the brand’s top five global markets, citing the country’s expanding economy and the evolving preferences of its affluent consumers.

This surge in demand is largely attributed to a younger demographic of wealthy Indians. Lamborghini reports that the average age of its Indian customers is below 40, making it one of the youngest markets globally, second only to China. This shift is driven by successful startup entrepreneurs and younger generations from affluent families who are more inclined to invest in luxury vehicles compared to previous generations. ​

Despite luxury cars constituting just over 1% of India’s annual vehicle sales, the growth trajectory is notable. Lamborghini sold 113 cars in India in 2024, marking a 10% increase from the previous year. Similarly, Mercedes-Maybach’s significant sales growth underscores the expanding market for ultra-luxury vehicles in the country. ​

To cater to this burgeoning demand, both brands are considering expanding their presence in India.
