Prayagraj, January 18, 2025: Among the many stories emerging from the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, the tale of Abhey Singh, popularly known as “IITian Baba,” has captured widespread attention. In a candid interview, the IIT Bombay graduate revealed surprising insights about his past and his transition from a lucrative career to a life of spirituality.
From Aerospace Engineering to Asceticism
Abhey Singh, who holds a degree in Aerospace Engineering from IIT Bombay, stunned many with his decision to leave behind a promising career. His recent interview with a prominent news outlet went viral, sparking curiosity about his life choices and spiritual transformation. With his distinctive dreadlocks and modest attire, Singh’s appearance adds to the intrigue surrounding him.
Life in Canada and a Search for Meaning
Singh shared that he spent three years in Canada, earning an impressive salary of Rs 3 lakh per month (approximately Rs 36 lakh annually). “While I earned well, expenses there were proportionate. An apple that costs Rs 50 here would be Rs 200 there,” he explained during the interview. Despite his financial success, Singh found himself grappling with depression and questioning the purpose of his life, leading him to walk away from his corporate career in 2021.
Personal Struggles and Relationship Insights
Reflecting on his personal life, Singh spoke about his reluctance towards marriage, influenced by witnessing his parents’ tumultuous relationship. “I feared marriage because my parents often fought. When you’ve only seen negative examples, it’s hard to envision a healthy relationship,” he shared. Although he had a four-year-long relationship, he struggled to progress due to his lack of understanding about positive partnerships.
A Youthful Quest for Truth
Singh also admitted to indulging in habits like smoking and drinking in his youth but emphasized his persistent desire to uncover deeper truths about life. “Like most young men, I experimented with these habits. However, my heart always yearned for something more meaningful,” he said.
A Devoted Follower of Mahadev
When asked about his family, Singh’s response reflected his spiritual commitment. “Now, it’s just Mahadev,” he said with conviction.
