Ahan Shetty Joins Border 2, Athiya Steps Away from Films

In a significant development for Bollywood enthusiasts, Ahan Shetty, son of veteran actor Suniel Shetty, is set to make his mark in the much-anticipated sequel to the iconic war drama Border. The original film, released in 1997 and directed by J.P. Dutta, is revered for its portrayal of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. Now, nearly three decades later, Border 2 aims to continue this legacy with a new generation of actors.

Ahan Shetty expressed his deep connection to the project, stating, “Ironic how life works—my journey with Border started 29 years ago when my mom visited dad on set while pregnant with me. I grew up hearing O.P. Dutta’s legendary stories, holding J.P. uncle’s hand, and sitting by Nidhi Dutta’s side. I never realized how much those moments would shape my love for cinema and the Indian Armed Forces.” The Times of India+1Hindustan Times+1

The sequel, directed by Anurag Singh, boasts a stellar cast including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, and Diljit Dosanjh. Sunny Deol, who reprises his role as Major Kuldeep Singh Chandpuri, welcomed Ahan to the cast, sharing on Instagram, “Welcoming Fauji @ahan.shetty to the Battalion of #Border2.”

While Ahan steps into the limelight, his sister Athiya Shetty’s absence from the film industry has been noticeable. Athiya made her debut in 2015 with the Salman Khan-backed Hero and later appeared in films like Mubarakan and Motichoor Chaknachoor. However, controversies surrounding Motichoor Chaknachoor, including disputes between the director and producers, left Athiya disillusioned. Suniel Shetty revealed, “With no fault of hers, she was dragged into something that she was not even responsible for. She is so scared now that anything which comes from me she wants to think about it 25 times. She doesn’t have that kind of faith.” Republic World+3India TV News+3Wikipedia+3Lehren+3Hindustan Times+3KashmirPEN+3

Athiya has since shifted her focus away from acting. In 2023, she married Indian cricketer KL Rahul, and the couple welcomed their daughter, Evaarah, in March 2025. Athiya has also ventured into entrepreneurship, taking on the role of creative director at Stage3, a fashion platform. @EconomicTimes+2Wikipedia+2Hindustan Times+2Zee Zest

As Border 2 gears up for its release on January 23, 2026, fans eagerly await to see Ahan Shetty honor his father’s legacy, while Athiya continues to chart her own path beyond the silver screen.
