CrowdStrike: Addressing a Recent Update Affecting Windows Systems
This communication serves as a central repository of information regarding a recent Falcon content update that inadvertently caused Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) errors on some Windows hosts protected by CrowdStrike. The update, deployed on July 19th, 2024, has been remediated, and we are committed to providing a comprehensive solution.
Impact Assessment
Windows systems that booted prior to 5:27 AM UTC on July 19th, 2024 may have encountered BSOD issues. Systems that booted after this time should be unaffected.
Remediation Procedures
For impacted systems, CrowdStrike recommends the following:
- System Reboot: A simple reboot allows the system to download and implement the corrective update. A wired ethernet connection is preferred for faster download speeds compared to Wi-Fi.
- Advanced Troubleshooting: If BSODs persist after rebooting, please refer to the CrowdStrike knowledge base for detailed instructions specific to your environment (physical or virtual machine).
