Lulu Group to Build India's Biggest Mall in Ahmedabad with ₹3,000 Crore Investment, Expands to Vizag and Nagpur

Lulu Group International, a prominent UAE-based conglomerate led by billionaire Yusuff Ali M.A., is set to make a significant investment in India’s retail landscape. The company has announced plans to construct a massive shopping mall in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, with an investment of ₹3,000 crore. This development is poised to be India’s largest mall, marking Lulu Group’s strategic expansion into the western region of the country.

Ahmedabad: A New Retail Landmark

The upcoming mall in Ahmedabad is designed to offer an unparalleled shopping and entertainment experience. Spanning approximately 3 million square feet, the facility will house over 300 national and international brands, catering to a diverse consumer base. A notable feature is the expansive food court, capable of accommodating 3,000 patrons and offering a variety of multi-cuisine restaurants. Entertainment options are set to include a 15-screen multiplex cinema equipped with IMAX technology and one of India’s largest children’s amusement centers. The project is expected to generate substantial employment opportunities, with projections of 6,000 direct jobs and over 12,000 indirect positions.

The foundation stone for this ambitious project is slated to be laid early next year, with land acquisition discussions currently in advanced stages. This initiative follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Lulu Group and the Government of Gujarat during a recent UAE roadshow led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in Dubai. Yusuff Ali M.A. expressed his enthusiasm for the project, highlighting Gujarat’s development under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. He also shared a personal connection to the state, having begun his business journey in Ahmedabad.

Expansion Plans: Vizag and Nagpur

In addition to the Ahmedabad project, Lulu Group has unveiled plans to further expand its footprint in India by developing two more shopping malls in Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Andhra Pradesh, and Nagpur, Maharashtra. These developments are part of the company’s broader strategy to establish a strong presence across various regions of the country.

The Vizag mall is anticipated to serve as a major retail and entertainment hub in Andhra Pradesh, capitalizing on the city’s growing economic significance and urbanization. Similarly, the Nagpur mall aims to cater to the central Indian market, providing residents with access to a wide range of retail brands and leisure activities. While specific investment figures and timelines for these projects are yet to be disclosed, they underscore Lulu Group’s commitment to tapping into India’s burgeoning retail sector.

Lulu Group’s Growing Presence in India

Lulu Group’s foray into Gujarat and its planned expansions in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra are in line with its vision to become a key player in India’s retail industry. Prior to these announcements, the company has successfully established five shopping malls in the country, located in Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Bengaluru, and Lucknow. These malls collectively offer approximately 3.7 million square feet of leasable area, featuring a mix of retail outlets, hypermarkets, and entertainment zones.

The group’s investment in the Indian market has been substantial, with over ₹7,000 crore allocated to existing malls. The upcoming projects in Ahmedabad, Vizag, and Nagpur are set to further increase this investment, reflecting the company’s confidence in India’s economic growth and consumer spending potential.

Strategic Vision and Economic Impact

Lulu Group’s expansion strategy aligns with India’s rapid urbanization and the rising demand for organized retail spaces. By introducing world-class shopping and entertainment destinations, the company aims to enhance the retail infrastructure in emerging cities, contributing to local economies and creating employment opportunities.

The Ahmedabad mall, in particular, is poised to transform the city’s retail landscape, attracting shoppers from across the region and potentially boosting tourism. The planned malls in Vizag and Nagpur are expected to have similar impacts, serving as catalysts for economic development and urban growth in their respective regions.

In summary, Lulu Group International’s significant investments in Ahmedabad, along with its planned expansions in Vizag and Nagpur, underscore its commitment to strengthening its presence in India’s retail sector. These developments are set to redefine shopping and entertainment experiences in these cities, contributing to economic growth and offering a multitude of opportunities for consumers and businesses alike.
