Instagram is a fantastic platform for connecting with friends, sharing photos and stories, and staying updated on the latest trends. But sometimes, you might decide it’s time to take a break. If you’re ready to say goodbye to Instagram for good, here’s a step-by-step guide on how to permanently delete your account.
Important Note: Deleting your Instagram account is permanent. Once you complete this process, you won’t be able to recover your profile, photos, videos, followers, or any other data associated with it.
Before You Begin:
- Make sure you know your Instagram login credentials (username and password).
- You’ll also need a stable internet connection.
Ready to Delete? Let’s Get Started!
We’ll be using the Instagram app for this guide.
- Launch the Instagram app and ensure you’re logged in to the account you want to delete.
- Go to your profile by tapping your profile picture in the bottom right corner.
- Access your account settings by tapping the three horizontal lines (hamburger menu) in the top right corner of your profile page.
- Within the settings menu, locate and tap on “Settings”.
- Scroll down and tap on “Account”.
- Under the Account menu, find and select the option “Delete Account”. (Instagram might suggest deactivating your account first. Deactivation hides your profile but allows you to reactivate it later. Choose this option only if you’re unsure about permanent deletion.)
- Instagram will ask you to choose a reason for deleting your account. Select the most relevant option from the list.
- Re-enter your Instagram password for verification.
- After reviewing the steps involved, confirm your decision by tapping the “Delete Account” button.
Keep These Things in Mind:
- You can’t delete your account using the Instagram Lite app.
- After deletion, you’ll have a 30-day grace period to change your mind and reactivate your account. Once those 30 days are up, your account and all its data are permanently gone.
- Consider downloading your Instagram data before deleting your account. This lets you save a copy of your photos, videos, comments, likes, and other information.
By following these steps, you can successfully remove your Instagram account permanently. Remember, this is a permanent action, so proceed with caution.
